It's reno time! We're getting nicely settled in our new home, but now the inevitable round of changes begins.
We always seem to want to change things when we move into a new place. We start with the statement to the real estate agent. "It's perfect. We love it," but it never takes long to find the things we don't love and another person's perfection is never ours.
I'm sure the earliest cave dwellers were the same. Picture Og and Mog as they move to a new hunting territory and need a new home. Mog nudges Og as they enter the new territory and points to a cave. "Perfect Og," she says.
Og grunts and begins to move in their clubs and skins. He probably doesn't get through the door before Mog holds up her hand. "Not so fast Og. We need to change things."
She then proceeds to direct Og through the renovation. Scratch out all those old cave paintings. They are too simplistic and dated. New ones are needed with maybe a mammoth instead of the sabre tooth. Much more modern .
Then the fire pit is all wrong . It should be moved to the other side of the cave. And of course the entrance needs to be widened and the skins arranged differently in the sleeping area.
Finally the big day comes when all is as it should be and Mog and Og are both happy with the result.
The next morning Og wakes up Mog and says. "Start packing the firewood and skins. We're moving. New hunting grounds."
And the cycle continues to this day.
