She used to have a scratching post that she loved. The problem was that when I moved it was bulky and decrepit and I decided to throw it away and replace it in our new home. That was a mistake. I've never been able to find one exactly like the one I threw out. I found a couple that were close. One was not available for shipping to Canada and the other was available in-store only, in a chain of pet stores we don't have here. Still with five pet shops in town, you'd think I could find one that would work.
Finally, I found one I was willing to take a chance on, even though I couldn't find her favourite cardboard insert one. Zoey is giving it a going over here and, covered in catnip, it seems to meet with her approval. She actually took a few tentative scratches on it.
What do you do to keep your cat from scratching your furniture? I tried the soft claw nails for a while. I thought it was working, but then a nail or two will slip off before you notice it and there goes the corner of the couch. Besides, Zoey hated getting her manicure. It's bad enough clipping her nails without adding fake nails.
So, I hope I have the problem solved. It will take a couple of weeks of due diligence with carpet tape on the furniture till she settles on her new post. Wish me luck!
