In my case, it's the purchase of a treadmill. Now, jogging on a treadmill staring at an blank wall can leave you so bored that in ten minutes, you've already regretted your purchase. Most gyms realize that and supply television monitors. So that's what we did- we set up a small TV and plugged in a device to stream Netflix, You Tube and a few other sources.
Now I can walk or jog my way to fitness watching all my favourite shows. I'm starting with the best of all-Midsomer Murders and going back to Season One. I find that, although I watched the episodes years ago and I remember the characters, I usually can't remember who the murderer is, so it's like a new show. By the time I've finished Midsomer Murders, I can switch to Poirot or maybe New Tricks.
By that time, I hope it's summer and I can take my act outdoors. I'm a winter wuss, I'm afraid. Even when it's above freezing, I can't get myself into the mood for a brisk walk. Hence the treadmill.
And by the end of summer, hopefully the Barnabys and Sykes have a new season for me to watch. Then I can get serious and take my training wheels off.
