I'm particularly pumped about seeing parts of Ireland. When I wrote Acres of Dreams, my starting point for Katy was my grandmother who came over from Ballyconnell in Co. Cavan. I would love to visit there and walk the same steps she might have taken over a century ago. On the other side my grandfather came from Airdrie Scotland. Of course, from what I can find out about all my cousins they seem to be spread across England, Scotland, and Ireland.
While we'll be planning a lot of the trip together, I'm sure each of us will have a few side trips to take on our own. There are so many places I'd like to see. I've always had a fascination for Richard III so would like to see the Leicestershire parking lot where he was found as well as Bosworth Field. So many other sights as well-Fotheringay Castle, New Forest, Stonehenge, and of course a stop in London to see The Mousetrap. I know I won't make them all.
I expect to take lots of notes and pictures while I'm there-maybe some research for the next story or two.
I think I'm going to enjoy the coming year dreaming and planning. Do you plan your trips for ages and in minute detail? Or are you a spur of the moment traveller, liking to meet the world as it greets you? I like to plan, but leave some room for unexpected developments.
I can't wait!
