With a whoosh for sent and a ding for received, and one tone for text message, another for a tweet, one for voice message, still another for FB post or e-mail, and sometimes my phone starts to sound like R2D2 trundling across the floor. Or was that C3PO? I always get them confused. Then, if you happen to have a tablet open in the room as well, it comes to you in stereo.
I decided a few days ago to rid myself of the distractions of electronic "Hey, over here"s. After all, who needs to know every few seconds each communication that comes our way. So, I went to my sounds and turned them all off. Except I didn't. It continued to chirp away. Then I discovered turning sounds off wasn't enough. You need to go into some programs individually and silence them. Finally. Now, when my phone chirps at me, it means I'm getting a ----phone call.
I'm not too sure how it's working out. As I sit here, my phone only an arm's length away, I can't keep my glance from swivelling over to check it. Have I missed an important e-mail? A life-changing tweet? A really cute cat video? It's almost as distracting as the noise.
This is going to be more difficult than I thought.
