Looking for a little romance in Christmas? This is a rerun of a blog I posted in December, 2013. Santa and Mrs.Claus still seem to be holding on!
*** One of the most enduring romances and marriages of all time has to be Santa and Mrs. Claus. They have been together for aeons- so long in fact that Mrs. Claus doesn’t get angry when Santa forgets their anniversary. She’s not entirely sure of the exact date herself.
We don’t know the circumstances of their first meeting but we assume it took place near the North Pole, (She’s probably a Canadian, like her husband) since Santa seems to not stray too far from home except for Christmas Eve. No one has managed yet to capture the pair indulging in a post-Christmas sunny holiday.
Their marriage didn’t result in children, but Mrs. Claus doesn’t seem to miss them, since she has the elves to take the place of her own children and their escapades keep her busy and young.
Santa’s family origins are a little obscure, but no doubt he inherited the family business from Santa Sr. and is carrying on all the family traditions. Mrs. Claus seems to fit in well, keeping Santa in good form and the elves happy and healthy. It wouldn’t hurt to put a word in her ear about cholesterol and saturated fats. It looks as though she may be over-compensating for the cold by providing too many comfort foods for her husband. With no Santa Jr. in the wings waiting to take over, we want to be sure Santa sees many more Christmas Eves.
Not a hint of scandal has ever touched their relationship. There was a story circulating that once Mrs. Claus threw a rolling pin at the radio when the DJ played once too often, "I saw Mommy kissing Santa Claus." but, after all those years, not one National Enquirer photographer has been able to snap a picture even remotely suggestive of impropriety.
They are a lesson to us all about enduring love.
